Use weekends to build, not escape! How to spend your weekend wisely?

Positive habits help us move forward, and an escape mindset makes us regress backwards. So be mindful of which activities you fill your weekends with. When you start paying attention to it and are mindful of it, you start filling your weekends with something you want to build and create rather than just denying, trying to forget and escape. Read on!

What? Are you talking about building on weekends? You know working on weekends can cause you to burn out. But it is not what this article is all about. This post is about using the weekends to build a life you want and not escape the life you have. I know it sounds challenging, but it can open your eyes to the idea of spending the next upcoming weekend building a life you always wanted. It is what most successful people do, and so can you. So how to spend your weekend wisely and build the life that you always wanted?

This concept really resonates with me because I do not separate my days into weekends and weekdays, but I see them as a week. I believe that the weekend is not two days off, but they are two free days I can use to build the life I want and not escape the one I have. I make the best of my weekends by focusing on things that I always wanted to build and still be able to indulge in self-care practices and enjoy my me-time

The weekend, in fact, is an opportunity to recharge yourself and focus on the things that matter the most. But for most of us, it turns out to be a distraction and keeps us away from reaching our goals. In fact, it can push you backwards.

If every weekend you hit the club and get drunk only to get up with a hangover, you move your health backwards.

If every weekend you indulge in retail therapy, buy expensive clothes, eat at expensive places and drink expensive wines, you move your financial health backwards.

And if every weekend you binge-watch Hulu and Netflix, you are moving your mental health backwards.

I want you to stop doing that and learn how to spend your weekends wisely.

How to spend the weekend wisely and build yourself?

Positive habits help us move forward, and an escape mindset makes us regress backward. So be mindful of which activities you fill your weekends with. When you start paying attention to it and are mindful of it, you start filling your weekends with something you want to build and create rather than just denying, trying to forget and escape.

There are two types of people in this world: those who say I do not know how to do it and others who say I do not know, but I will figure out a way.

You can say I am too busy or too exhausted to do anything on weekends and then regret it later. Or you can be on the other side and be determined to find out the right way. You can pretty well choose the right side and be the kind of person you want to become. And when you do so, you are being true to yourself

There is no denying the fact that when we are determined to do certain things, we work towards them. We prioritize things and complete them. We do not make excuses for those things. For example, those of you who have kids, make time for them, pack their lunch, pick and drop them off at school, take them to the activity classes, and whatnot. You never say Nah, I don’t have time today, or I am not in the mood to pick them up. Let them stay there overnight.

However, if some things are not important, we lose focus, escape, or make excuses. And the main problem is procrastination, as we think we have all the time in the future. We believe that we will build ourselves one day and find time for the same. But let’s be honest about it. When you are not able to find time on weekends, will you be able to find time in the future?

Coming back to the things you love, you make time for them. So, what stops you from taking out time for things you want to achieve? Because you do not treat those things as important or worthy enough. You think that you will have ample amount of time to build yourself up in the future.

I would want you to stop doing that. I would ask you to start small and start finding time on weekends, at least to build yourself up and not escape your life. You should face your life and the challenges while addressing them head-on. You can very well use your weekends to focus on the right things, recharge yourself, and build yourself up! And it is exactly what you should be doing.

But why are you scared of building and venturing out of your comfort zone? Is it the fear of failure? I guess it is!

Do not be scared about building. There is always a fear that whatever we will build can fail, and it can stop us from progressing. So, my piece of advice is to build in silence. And tell no one about it. It is better to stay calm and quiet and keep doing your work, which you can showcase later. You don’t have to prove it to anyone except yourself.

When I left my job, I told no one.

When I joined back, I told no one.

When I felt elated, I told no one.

When I felt let down, I told no one.

When I was grieving, I told no one.

When I was relishing my life, I told no one.

When I travel, I tell no one.

What is my next destination? I will tell no one.

Outside opinions distract you and negate your energy. You don’t want to experience that. So, it is always better to build in silence.

If you are still wondering about how to spend your weekend wisely, here is the answer: keep building and not tell or speak about it. In fact, I try to be as discrete as possible. I do tell people, but only to those who deserve to know. And I do tell others when it is the right time to talk about it. Nothing less and nothing more!

It is not it! There is much more to it. When trying to answer how to spend the weekend wisely, I can never forget to tell you that every step counts. Yes, finding time on weekends is tough but not impossible. I struggled with the same mindset, but I successfully broke that myth, and so can you!

The best way to do so is to take baby steps. Yes, every step will count when you want them to count. And you can start small. Set aside 20 mins on every weekend for yourself. Start building a 20-minute habit. Some of you may say you do not have time as household chores run you dry. But spending 20 minutes a day working on building something that you are passionate about is not unjustified. In fact, it is what you should ideally be doing.

When you start spending some time daily to build something that matters, you start to make small progress toward your goals. And every step you take counts and motivates you enough to invest more time into it. Positive things always motivate you to become more positive. And it is what exactly happens when you start to build a 20-minute habit.

So, progress is proof. It leads to motivation. And here you go. You start to prioritize the right things in life and start building yourself, even on the weekends.

For those who still want to know how to spend your weekend wisely? Here is one more insight.

Many times, we can’t find time to build ourselves up because something is stopping us from doing so. Maybe it is your hectic job, toxic people in your life, procrastination, or a personal project you are committed to.

The best way to overcome these barriers to your personal growth is to understand that when you build yourself up, you end up creating a wall between what you love and what you hate. So, unless you want to see more of the things you hate, you should focus on building yourself and the things that matter.

So, make building a habit. Learn how to spend your weekend wisely and productively. Eventually, you will escape the life you hate and replace it with a life you love.
