Question: So, how did you start your social media journey?
I am a network engineer by profession, but I always wanted to do something extra. The world of media, fashion and content creation always fascinated me. So, I chose to launch myself on the same. I started by making my Instagram profile public. And I was amazed to see the kind of response and appreciation I got. People loved my content and started engaging positively with my feed. And since then, there is no looking back. It started as a hobby, and now it is my profession. But it is not as simple as it sounds. A lot of hard work, intelligence and creativity had gone into it.
Question: What do you think that people like about you?
I think people want to watch more of me because I try to be as authentic as possible in all my digital content across social media. I do simple and relatable things that people love. I give them good enough reasons to come back watch my content. But I do not lose my authenticity and stay true to myself. Even when I am endorsing a brand, I give my real reviews. I do not go by the terms as dictated by the brands. It may mean less business, but I choose to be true to be myself and my audience.
I prefer to engage with my audience on a deeper level and make a personal connection with them. I try to answer all their questions and respond to their comments by going live and interacting with them from time to time. I listen to them! When they want me to record a certain kind of content or cover a specific topic, I do not miss this opportunity. I try to give my audience what they want to watch! And it is my success mantra.
Question: What is your favourite social media platform?
Every social media platform is unique in terms of its audience, the way it works and the unique features it is known for. So, every social media platform is unique and you should find one that you resonate with the most. I primarily engage with my audience on Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. I loved Tik-Tok though, but after it got banned in India, I moved to YouTube Shorts and Insta Reels.
So, to answer what platform is my favourite, I would say all three- Instagram for picture sharing and reels, YouTube for shorts and video, and Snapchat for stories. And I have a different audience engaging with me for different content on all three platforms. So, to say which one is better or my favourite will not be right. All work well for me for different content and reasons.
Question: Do you enjoy being so famous? And what is it that you enjoy being famous?
Of course, I do enjoy being famous and celebrated. But it is just not about being famous. It is heart-warming to know that I am an inspiration to people and that I am able to impact people’s lives in a positive way. And it is exactly what I enjoy the most being famous.
Question: There are so many people who want to be social media famous and earn money. Any tips for these budding social media influencers?
Well, everyone wants to be famous, and nothing is wrong with that. But people should ask themselves: what is that they want to be famous for? It means that you should find your ground and discover a skill that you are best at, and success will follow you. You should ask yourself what is it that you are good at rather than just following the norm. If you are good at one thing, perfect it and then deliver it like no other can. And nothing can stop you from being famous! If you are good at cooking, for example, you should post unique content related to cooking that your audience wants to watch and that will make them keep coming back.
I know many people who want to earn money from social media by posting content. But it is a highly competitive landscape and making money is not at all easy. If you really want to make money, you should find your own niche, create unique content around that and post consistently. Make sure that post relevant and meaningful content that resonates with your audience and be patient. Understanding your audience and their preferences is the key to success.
To cut short, I would say that there are no shortcuts for getting social media famous. It is just like any other career option you make. Patience, consistency and expertise is the key to success.
Question: Does social media pay well?
Social media can be very rewarding than most of the other career options. But It is not easy to crack it. You need to follow certain rules: to work hard every day, to make it a full-time profession, to be original and highly creative, to break the clutter and to post consistently without any expectations. And only with persistence, diligence and creativity, you can earn money. So, if you want it to make money, treat it like your full-time occupation, invest in it and offer people something unique.
Question: Any tips on how to grow your social media and social media followers?
There is no shortcut to growing your social media channel or followers. And there is no secret to the social media algorithms that you can crack. To grow your social media, you should instead focus on creating relevant, meaningful and engaging content that resonates with your audience. You can make use of social media analytics like YouTube analytics or Instagram professional dashboard to understand your audience profile, posts they are engaging with, and the kind of content they like. Keep a tab of metrics like reach and engagement. Also, make sure your read all the comments as they have a lot to reveal. The idea is to keep a pulse on your social media efforts.
Another potent tip is to engage with your audience by speaking to them directly. One way to do so is to go live and answer their questions, respond to their requests, and create content they want to watch. Having a scheduled question and answer or ask-me-anything session really works.
One thing that works for me is that I post different content on different platforms based on the audience. For example, the Snapchat audience is relatively younger and want to know about my routine life from morning till night. YouTube, on the other hand, has an audience that has an affinity for micro-videos called shorts. And same is true with Instagram, where reels are famous. So, I post accordingly on both platforms. But I also make sure that I put my pictures on my Instagram feed as it is primarily a social media picture sharing platform.
Another piece of advice is to make a social media content calendar for yourself and abide by it. You can decide to post on YouTube every day in the evening and on Instagram every alternate day at another time. But whatever you decide, follow your content calendar in terms of time, frequency, days and type of content like video, shorts, reels, stories, pics and so on.
You can pick up one of the social media platforms you think is best and has the potential audience you want to engage with to start with. And then perfect that platform first, grow it, make a name for yourself there before you hop to another platform. Once, people know you for your niche and your content, they are likely to follow you wherever you go.
To sum up, if you want to grow your social media and increase your social media follower, do not forget to engage with your audience, make a personal connection with them, create content in your own unique style and keep posting consistently. Enjoy your work and give it your best. Things will fall in place, and you will start growing on social media.
Question: So what does your typical day looks like?
Creating content is not an easy task and it requires a lot of planning, energy, time and talent. I spend a considerable portion of my time planning my content, seeking inspirational ideas, keeping a tab on the latest trends and preparing my mind for the shoot. And then, I spend the rest of my time shooting, recording, editing and posting. It takes a lot of time and effort to make one content up and running. So if you ask what my typical day looks like, I would say it is hectic yet fulfilling because I enjoy what I do!
Questions: What all equipment do you use to shoot professionally?
I use a good phone camera (iPhone 13 Pro) or a DSLR and a high-quality ring light. Only these two things work for me. You actually do not need much to shoot. It is the concept and execution that matters the most.
Question: Do you think social media has become toxic and has it ever let your down?
When you do something, there will be both haters and supporters. It is not possible to make everyone happy all the time. There will be times when people will judge you, roast you, write hate comments and criticize you. It will break your heart, and you will be forced to rethink. But successful influencers do not get bogged by the negativity and continue doing the good work. They focus on their work regardless of the negativity or criticism. And, then a point comes when negativity doesn’t bother them anymore. Hard work and resilience ultimately pays off. I have also personally experienced a lot of criticism and negativity on social media platforms. But it didn’t stop me. I kept going, and here I am. I stand tall and strong! Social media has been disappointing sometimes but not discouraging.
Question: What would be your advice to the millennials who are going crazy on social media?
I would like to say that Instagram is not real life, and so is not any social media channel. What people project on their feed is not the reality. So, do not compare yourself with others and let not the feeling of being not good enough rupture your mental health. People portray a different life of success, wealth and perfect bodies on social media platforms. But in reality, it is not true. It is a false reality that you easily buy in. Stop doing that!
You focus on your work and what you do while engaging positively on social media. Understand that there is nothing called a perfect life in this world and that comparison is a thief of joy. Let not social media affect your self-esteem and steal your happiness.
